FourFourTwo’s season preview for 2022/23 served up the annual fan section of the team profiles where they are asked about players at their clubs. Plenty of Irish names featured under many of the answers given with some good, some bad and some very very promising.

We look at what the fans throughout the English Football League said about their Irish players. All extracts are taken from FourFourTwo magazine with the headings from the fan Q&A section.

Club’s key player

Chiedoze Ogbene, potentially, his directness and speed will help flip defence into attack.

Luke Howdle, Rotherham United fan

John Egan, if we can keep him.

Sam Parry, Sheffield United fan

Michael Obafemi. He knows how to score goals, as 12 last season showed.

Guto Llewelyn, Swansea City fan

Sean Raggett-our player of the season and a rock at the heart of defence. He is a leader for us. Thankfully, he signed a new two year contract this summer.

Brendon Bone, Portsmouth fan

Paddy Madden. Our captain leads by example with his work rate as well as his goals

Chloe Beresford, Stockport County fan

Look out for……

Andrew Omobamidele, a frighteningly quick and very strong central defender who is technically proficient for his age.

Jon Punt, Norwich City fan

Eiran Cashin, he shone at the end of last season and debuted for the Ireland unde 21’s

Ollie Wright, Derby County fan

Clubs most underated player

Daryl Horgan, the victim of his own selflessness. He’s the best we’ve got when it comes to recycling possession and creating space in the final third.

Tom Hancock, Wycombe Wanderers fan

Reece Staunton. He has found opportunities really difficult to come by, but there’s a player of talent there.

James McKeown, Bradford City fan

Connor O’Riordan, a top flight player of the future. He’s so assured at the back, belying his tender years. I’ve got shoes older than him.

Steve Bennett, Crewe Alexandra fan

Warren O’Hora, he quietly goes about his job and comfortably puts in a 8/10 display every week without the same recognition as others

Jozef Chapman, MK Dons fan

Teen talent Cian Hayes, he’s improved a lot from last term and recorded the most dribbles performance game, which highlights his intent to get at players.

Ben Knapman, Fleetwood Town fan

Trevor Clarke, Injuries and silly suspensions limited the ex-Rotherham man to just a handful of appearances last season, so we’re yet to see the best of him.

Nathan Bees, Bristol Rovers fan

The former active player fans want back at their club

Nathan Collins who has an enormous future ahead of him.

Rob Doolan, Stoke fan

Conor Hourihane. He really connected with the fans and gave his blood, sweat and tears for the badge.

Carlo Van Watering, Barnsley fan

David McGoldrick, our best player of recent years.

Phil Ham, Ipswich Town fan

Michael Doyle. It’s a shame he’s now the wrong side of 40, because we never replaced him.

Brendon Bone, Portsmouth fan

Sammie Szmodics, driving through the midfield like it’s 2013–19.

Doug Fenner, Colchester United fan

Players that fans would drive to another club

Aaron Connolly, who features in the papers more for getting into trouble on nights out than his footballing exploits.

Owen Wilkinson, Brighton fan

Jeff Hendrick, He’s Championship level at best. Time to go.

Kane Husband, Newcastle United fan

Harry Arter. Played 15 times, didn’t look interested once and earns an absolute fortune.

Lee Clarke, Nottingham Forest fan

Callum Robinson, he clearly has the ability, seldom has the application. Peacocks around the field but persistently wilts under pressure.

Chris Lepkowski, West Brom fan

Sean Maguire, hasn’t scored since November and we need better.

Olly Dawes, Preston NE fan
